School Cancellation and Delay Procedures

The following transportation procedures are provided to cover certain situations that may occur because of inclement weather during the course of the school year. These decisions are extremely difficult to make because of the information and many times the lack of information that is available to us.

School Closings

When there is no school for Franklin Regional students due to inclement weather or road conditions, transportation will not be provided for private school students. Also, the teaching staff is not to report whenever a school closing is in effect. All administrators and clerical support staff are to report to their respective buildings in a safe and timely manner.

School Delays

When there is a two-hour delay for Franklin Regional students due to inclement weather or road conditions, transportation will be provided for private school students on the same delayed basis. If there is a two-hour delay, Kindergarten students will arrive at 11:00 a.m. on the buses or parent drop off. The Kindergarten morning session dismissal will remain at 12:30 p.m. The morning class session will be shorter because of the delay, but dismissal time does not change. All teachers, administrators, and clerical support staff are to report to their respective buildings in a safe and timely manner.

Early Dismissals

Franklin Regional will not implement an unplanned early dismissal unless for extreme emergencies or by the Pennsylvania Governor's order.

Athletic and Evening Events

When Franklin Regional is closed because of inclement weather or road conditions, all athletic events and evening activities will be canceled. If Franklin Regional is scheduled to play in an away sporting event, the decision to cancel the event is strictly up to the home team. Coaches will notify the players as to whether the away event has been canceled or not.

Special Announcements

Parents and students are asked to listen to KDKA, WTAE, or WPXI for information in regards to school closings and delays. All information related to school closings and delays will also be posted to the Districts’ web site. Please follow the time schedule as announced for the Franklin Regional School District. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to call the main District number at 724-327-5456. Decisions regarding delays or cancellations will be initially made by 5:30 A.M.
