The Franklin Regional Senior High School’s (FRSH) Playschool program is now accepting applications for the 2017 session, which begins October 10, 2017. Playschool is a preschool age play program that is open to any child who is 3, 4, or 5 years old. This program serves as a learning laboratory for the Child Development II students at FRSH. It is a program where preschool-age children and high school students learn from one another.

The emphasis for the Playschool children is learning through play. The program explores large and small motor skills through a variety of activities such as dancing and making crafts. The children sing, listen to stories, and visit the FRSH library. This gives children an opportunity to learn language as well as letter and word recognition. A dramatic play center is also offered where children can use their creative imaginations. The children participate in circle time where they dress the Weather Bear, say the Pledge of Allegiance, count, and learn the days of the week. There are rotating activities for the children to participate in during circle time daily. Playschool children also experience the science and art centers along with the most popular activity, free-play, where students can explore all of the wonderful toys, games and puzzles throughout FR’s classrooms. Since the District believes the best way for preschoolers to learn is through play, the Playschool program does not use computers or electronic learning games. The students will also go on a field trip to the Children’s Museum in the fall and the Pittsburgh Zoo in the spring.

The fall and spring session will both take place on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 8:55 - 10:35 a.m. There is a limit on the number of students accepted for each day, so please sign up early.
