Franklin Regional Seniors Humna Anzaar, Akash Arkalgud, and Vedanth Reddyvari were recognized for scoring in the top 1% of all PSAT/NMSQT test takers nationwide. This qualifies them as National Merit Scholarship Semi-Finalists. Congratulations!

🦎🔬 Our first graders recently explored animal adaptations and survival through an exciting hands-on activity led by Monica Graziani and her Biotechnology and Anatomy students from the senior high school! 🐾 Serving as mentors, our high school students worked directly with our first graders, extending their learning from the Mystery Science curriculum. 🧪✨This collaboration provided our high school students with an authentic opportunity to practice leadership, scientific communication, and laboratory skills while giving our youngest learners an exciting introduction to the awe of science. 🌱🔬
Most importantly, this experience was a wonderful example of citizenship, where our students learn from one another, serve as mentors, and help build a stronger school community. 💙🐾👏

A couple of weeks ago, our 8th grade students visited the Flight 93 National Memorial to learn about September 11, 2001, and the lives forever changed by the events of that day. Students reflected on the stories of the passengers and crew of Flight 93 as shared by National Park Service rangers.

💙 It was a BLUE day but not in a sad way! 💙
As our kindergarten students learn their colors, Mrs. Welch's class is celebrating each new color with a special color day! Last week, students celebrated Blue Day in a big way.
Along with wearing blue, students enjoyed some special time with the big blue blocks at the Primary School. It was a fun, hands-on way to celebrate learning—and, of course, the color blue! 💙🟦

Searching for the right number! 🔎 Students at the Intermediate School participated in a numbers search during math class last week. 🔢

Last Wednesday, the FRHS Counseling Department hosted the 4th Annual Fall College Rep Visit Day. Juniors and Seniors were invited to meet with over 30 College and Trade School Representatives to learn about admissions, majors and programs, and future opportunities. FRSH's larger College, Career, and Trade/Technical School Fair will occur in the Spring for all students in grades 9–12.

Intermediate students are getting outside! 🌿 During the first couple of weeks of School, Ms. Feltenberger's class posed for a photo in front of the building, and during recess, students took some time to make music outside. Stay tuned. Students' outdoor adventures will continue as they prepare to learn about Haymaker Run and the wetlands that reside on the elementary campus! 🎶

Last weekend, a group of students represented the FR Marching Band during the Pitt Band Annual Band Day on Saturday, Sept. 12. 💙💛Throughout the day, Franklin Regional musicians rehearsed alongside Pitt band members, learned advanced marching techniques, and gained insight into the dedication and teamwork required at the collegiate level. 🎺🎷FR joined the Pitt Marching Band to perform a pregame concert at Acrisure Stadium and had the opportunity to connect with other local marching bands.

Students at the Intermediate School are bringing their projects to life through storyboarding and hands-on learning. During class, students created stories, drew them out, and then designed their sets using LEGOs. This project showcased FR's 5Cs, especially collaboration, communication, and creativity. 👏

Congratulations to 10th grader Reese Regelski, who was named one of the Westmoreland County athletes of the week. Reese is currently a starting striker for the FR Girls Varsity soccer team. Keep up the great work! 👏 ⚽ https://triblive.com/sports/westmoreland-county-athletes-of-the-week-franklin-regionals-reese-regelski-norwins-tanner-johnson/
Over the weekend, FRSH team member Lisa Fako received $1000 at the Pitt game after entering a raffle! 🎉 The funding will support additional school supplies, and in FR fashion, Ms. Fako decided to share the winnings with the rest of her English Department team. Congratulations! 💙

Teacher Innovation in Action! 💡
Over the summer, middle school social studies teacher Mr. Ripple built an incredible hands-on Augmented Reality (AR) sandbox to bring geography lessons to life! Using a projector, Xbox Kinect, computer, and wood, combined with free software downloaded from the University of California, Davis, he created an interactive, high-tech learning tool.
Here's how it works in the classroom👇
Real-Time Interactive Learning: As students dig and construct hills, mountains, and valleys in the sandbox, a 3D rendering of the box is projected onto the screen, changing in real time for the entire classroom to see.
Visualizing Earth Systems: The sandbox showcases exactly how land impacts water flow and why natural disasters happen.
Recreating Landscapes: Students can recreate geographic features like sand plains and river valleys.
Connecting Geography to Humanity: The tool teaches students how physical geography impacts where and why people live where they do.
Kudos to Mr. Ripple for prioritizing innovation and creating an engaging, immersive, and dynamic environment for his students! 👏🌍
