Holiday Help Needed – 2019

Holidays are often a happy time for families, filled with friends and celebrations. However, we know that they can also be times of stress for those in financial need. Franklin Regional School District is partnering with organizations in our community to provide assistance to families in need this holiday season. If your family could benefit from this confidential assistance, contact your child’s school counselor by November 8th.

Please don’t hesitate to contact someone if you are in need. That is what families, even school “families,” are for!

If you are interested in helping with this community effort by providing a gift or gift card for a student in our schools, please complete the attached form and have your child return it to their teacher by November 8th. We will then contact you to confirm what gift or gift card is needed and delivery details.

The Franklin Regional School District is reminding families that elementary report cards for Heritage, Newlonsburg, and Sloan will be delivered electronically. The District has transitioned to a paperless process for all report cards. Franklin Regional Middle and Senior High school families will continue to receive electronic report cards as in the past.

Electronic distribution will occur using the eSchoolPLUS™ Home Access Center (HAC). This link can be found on the District website www.frsdk12.org and as a button on individual building pages on the bottom left side. If a parent/guardian is unable to access the report card electronically, a printed copy may be picked up at the school office or mailed to individual families after the report cards are made available online. This request should be directed to the school secretary in advance. The parent portal will close at 3:45 tomorrow and reopen on Tuesday, November 5 at 9:00 a.m.

Franklin Regional School Board Members Honored for Service

Four Franklin Regional School District School Directors were honored for their long-term service as school directors by the Pennsylvania School Boards Association (PSBA).

Board President, Dr. Lawrence M. Borland, along with Mr. Dennis Pavlik, and Mrs. Jane Tower, received recognition certificates for eight years of service, and Mr. Herb Yingling, received recognition for 16 years of service. Superintendent Dr. Gennaro R. Piraiano, Jr. presented each of them with a certificate at the October School Board meeting. The four Directors will be added to the PSBA “Honor Roll of School Board Service.”

Dr. Piraino spoke about the recipients and their years of dedicated volunteer service to children, the community, and public education.
“School directors continually are spending more of their personal time on school-related activities,” said Dr. Piraino. “Fifty-four percent of Pennsylvania school boards devote 16 hours or more a month to school board business. That shows a real commitment on their part.”

According to Dr. Piraino, these individuals put in an average of three working days per month of non-paid, volunteer service as school directors.
“They exemplify leadership and dedication, giving unselfishly to their communities, students, and the public schools,” he said. “Their efforts, along with those of their fellow board members, reflect their dedication to giving our children the opportunity to gain knowledge through the best educational system possible.”
