School Delays & Cancelations

The following procedures are provided to cover certain road/traffic situations that may occur due to inclement weather during the course of the school year. These decisions are extremely difficult to make due to the constantly changing circumstances tied to precipitation and outdoor temperatures. We have an ongoing collaboration with the local police and road departments as we weigh the decision on whether or not to hold school.  Thank you in advance for your understanding and your cooperation over the upcoming winter months.  
 
School Closings

When there is no school for Franklin Regional students due to inclement weather or road conditions, transportation will NOT be provided for private school students. Also, the teaching staff is NOT to report whenever a school closing is in effect. All administrators and clerical support staff are to report to their respective buildings in a safe and timely manner.

When there is a two-hour delay for Franklin Regional students due to inclement weather or road conditions, transportation will be provided for private school students on the same delayed basis. If there is a two-hour delay, Kindergarten students should arrive by bus or parent drop-off between 10:45-11:00 a.m.  The Kindergarten morning session dismissal will be 12:30 p.m. All teachers, administrators, and clerical support staff are to report to their respective buildings in a safe and timely manner.  
 
Early Dismissals

Franklin Regional will NOT implement an unplanned early dismissal unless for extreme emergencies or by the direct order of the Governor of Pennsylvania.

Athletic and Evening Events

When Franklin Regional is closed due to inclement weather or poor road conditions, all athletic events and evening activities will be CANCELED. If Franklin Regional is scheduled to play in an away sporting event, the decision on whether to cancel the event is left strictly up to the hosting team. Coaches will notify the players as to whether the away event has been canceled.

Media & Social Media Announcements

Parents and students are asked to listen, watch, or explore the apps for KDKA, WTAE, or WPXI for information regarding School Closings, Flexible Instructional Days, and 2-Hour Delays. Information will also be posted to the District's main website, shared via our social media platforms, and deployed through our mass communications systems.  Decisions regarding adjustments to the normal school day will be initially made by 5:30 A.M.  If weather conditions worsen following the initial decision, updates will be issued accordingly.
