April 15, 2020
Dear Parent(s) and Guardian(s);
We hope that this communication finds you and your entire family in good health and spirits. Amidst this global pandemic crisis, we have placed safety, health, and care for community as our priority and have worked thoughtfully to support our students and their families in all ways.
As a public school system, we have been challenged to shift from traditional instruction to virtual instruction for all of our students in a very short timeline. We are proud of our entire school community for accomplishing that mission and for providing the continuity of education that each child in our district needs.
At the time that Governor Wolf mandated school closings across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, we were just about to embark in one of our most important and enjoyable traditions, welcoming new families and registering our incoming kindergarten students. Kindergarten registration appointments were scheduled to happen during the week of March 17-20, 2020. In the weeks since that time, we have been working hard to transition our staff, students and families to an online learning environment and temporarily placed the registration process on hold.
We are very pleased to inform you that we are now prepared to open up kindergarten registration with a revised process. With that being said, given the mandated social distancing protocol, our typical face-to-face contact appointments have been eliminated for the time being. Enclosed you will find a document that outlines the following:
How to obtain a Kindergarten Registration packet if you do not already have one.
What documents and information are required for submission and the exact types of photocopies that we will need of documents beyond the packet.
Various ways to submit all required information (U.S. mail or a “Drop & Go” process in the Newlonsburg Elementary lobby at specific dates/times).
What to do if you don’t have access to a copy machine (photos and scans are acceptable) along with ways to submit (print out or emailed electronically).
What to do if you can’t make copies, take photos or make scans of documents needed. We will happily accept what you do have for the time being.
Contact information for those who can respond to questions about the registration process or general kindergarten programming.
Currently, we know that all schools in Pennsylvania will be closed through April 30, 2020. What comes next is unknown to us. Therefore, we are engaged in thoughtful conversations with our staff and agree that it is important to prepare for potential changes to the upcoming May transition events (Family Literacy night and Kindergarten Screenings) in the event that we are unable to physically return to school to make them a reality.
Your child’s positive and successful transition into our Franklin Regional family is of the utmost importance to us. Please know that it is our plan to communicate changes and plans to you as things unfold in the upcoming weeks. Please accept our sincere thanks and appreciation for your patience and understanding at this time of uncertainty.
